Why hairspringf

The difference is in how the work is done.

Most watch owners want the same things from a repair workshop: an honest assessment, no surprises on price, and their watch returned working as it should. Here is how we approach each of those.

At a glance

What working with hairspringf means.

Written quote before any work begins

No watchmaker opens a movement without a signed-off quote in hand. The assessment is provided to the owner in writing at no charge.

One watchmaker per job

The same person handles your watch from intake through to final regulation and return. Accountability stays with one set of hands.

Timegrapher results included

Every completed movement job comes with measured timing figures — rate, amplitude, beat error — so you have a record of the watch's condition when it left us.

Pressure testing on overhauled cases

Cases sent for overhaul are dry-air pressure tested after assembly. Any seal failure is corrected before the watch is returned.

Six-month labour cover

Issues traceable to our work within six months of return are addressed without additional charge to the owner.

Central Bangkok, walk-ins welcome

The workshop is on Thanon Khao San, accessible from the Chao Phraya piers. No appointment needed for strap work or assessments.

Professional expertise

The watchmaker at hairspringf trained formally over several years before setting up independently. That training covered both the theoretical side — escapement geometry, gear train calculation, spring metallurgy — and the practical: disassembly under magnification, pivot polishing, pallet adjustment, and regulation. Eleven years of independent repair work has added experience across a wide range of calibres, from entry-level automatics to multi-complication mechanical movements.

  • Formal horological training, including time in Switzerland
  • 11 years of independent repair experience in Bangkok
  • Experience across mechanical, automatic, and manual wind calibres

Tools and technique

We work with a watchmaker's binocular loupe and dedicated movement inspection microscope, ultrasonic cleaning equipment for parts, and a Swiss timegrapher for rate measurement. Case work is done using hand files and hand-held polishing media rather than power tools, which preserves original surface geometry. We do not cut corners by substituting machines for judgment.

  • Ultrasonic parts cleaning for thorough residue removal
  • Swiss timegrapher for multi-position rate measurement
  • Hand-finishing only for case and bracelet refinishing

Clear communication

We explain what we found during assessment in plain language, without assuming the owner wants to hear horological terminology. If parts are available only as third-party alternatives, we say so and explain the difference. If a turnaround time changes due to parts delays, we contact the owner ahead of the original collection date — not on the day they arrive to collect.

  • Plain-language assessment summaries provided in writing
  • Parts decisions discussed before work proceeds
  • Timeline updates given proactively, not reactively

Transparent pricing

Our service prices are published. Strap and bracelet refresh from ฿4,400. Chronograph servicing from ฿11,000. Complete overhaul from ฿34,500. These cover the labour involved in each service type; parts are priced separately where required and itemised on the quote. There are no administration fees, handling fees, or collection charges.

  • Published prices with no hidden additions
  • Parts itemised separately and approved before ordering
  • Assessment at no charge regardless of whether work proceeds

Documented results

Every completed movement service is documented. The service record includes the calibre reference, the work performed, any parts replaced (by number where available), and the timegrapher figures measured on completion. This gives the owner a verifiable record — useful for a watch that may be passed on, insured, or submitted for future service elsewhere.

  • Calibre reference and work summary on each service record
  • Measured timing figures included for movement work
  • Parts replaced listed by number where manufacturer data is available

What sets us apart

Things you will not find everywhere.

Replaced parts returned to the owner

When we replace a component during service, the original part is cleaned and placed in a labelled envelope returned with the watch. You know exactly what came out and when. If you choose not to keep the part, we dispose of it — but the decision is yours.

Hand-only case refinishing

We do not use rotary polishing equipment on case refinishing work. Every surface — brushed flanks, polished lugs, bevelled edges — is worked by hand to follow the original finishing geometry. This takes longer and costs more but preserves the character of the piece.

Walk-in assessment for any watch

You do not need to book an appointment to bring a watch in for assessment. During opening hours, we will look at it, tell you honestly what we see, and give you a written quote — at no charge, with no obligation to proceed.

No work without owner sign-off

If during a repair we encounter something unexpected — an additional worn component, damage not visible at assessment — we stop, contact the owner, and obtain sign-off before continuing. We do not proceed on assumption or complete work that was not agreed.
